Being a volunteer fire-fighter is not all about putting out fires, extricating victims from car accidents, training, and helping old ladies cross the road. Membershiip is not all about you! Join and your family joins with you. You might be the one who has to take exams and respond to calls, but your family gets to enjoy the social functions, join in family activities and get involved in community fun.
We have our own social events and community activities, like the Easter Egg Hunt, which involve all the family and allwhich everyone can get involved and all help is gratefully accepted! There are other activities, like the annual 911 Ride, where we help with charitable and community events.
There are not many children who do not appreciate having a fire-fighter parent and we have lost count of the number of (imaginary) fires our children have put out, the number of fires they have driven to (with lights and siren) and the how many of us have been deafened by our children ringing the bell on the ladder truck! As the pager goes off the whole family listens to help give the quickest way to the incident. Even those of us who never knew anything about the fire service identify with succeses and losses suffered by fire-fighters anywhere and appreciate the pride our families have in our acheivements
